Wait A Minute...I Thought I Was Black!

Even though I had promised myself not to post a large amount of videos on my blog. I couldn't for the life of me resist posting up two videos today. Both deal with race (and oddly Barack O'Bama) and also deals with when do you consider a Black Man to actually be a Black Man in the United States.
The first video is of Author Debra Dickerson on The Colbert Report, where she explains how come she feels that Barack is not truly a BLACK MAN. (Paraphrasing here) That since Barak's ancestors were not slaves here in America during that time frame and that his ancestors did not come from West Africa. Barack can not be considered a Black American, or something like that. The second video is of Senior Black Correspondent Larry Wilmore of The Daily Show. He also, explains why Black Americans don't like Barack because his father is from Kenya (and not the USA) and that Black Americans don't like anything...African.
So, why post these videos? Well because I am in the same boat as Barack. I have no ancestors who were here during the Slave Period. Both my parents are from Haiti and not Africa. So what does that make me. A Haitian American or just some random guy who for some reason is a bit dark (I like to think, a mocha like coloring). Does this mean I can no longer check that box when it says, "pick your race".
Now I could go into a deep logical, analytical type debate citing Supreme Court Cases and such as to why I am an African-America or a Black Man. But you didn't come here for that.
You came here for the videos.
So, eNJoy!
Until Next Time.....
oh by the way...it seems that these videos have an expiration date. So if you are reading this blog a few months down the road from when I had originally posted it. Tough Luck!

28 Days of Trivia...

Well folks, it's the start of Black History Month, and as Larry Wilmore would say it is, "...28 days of trivia about Harriet Tubman and The Tuskegee Air Men." So why even have it? Maybe to throw a bone to the African-American community, tell that you were sorry about what had happened and promise that it will never happen again. This obsession of condensing 200 years worth of history in a month (the shortest month as a matter of fact) is a bit trite and demeaning. How come Black History can't be a part of regular American history? Who knows...

Well for your viewing pleasure here is the video of Larry Wilmore on the The Daily Show, explaining the significance of Black History Month.
